The fishing ban in the Western Dvina near the Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station is proposed to be extended for 2 years

The ban on fishing in the section of the Western Dvina near the Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station is proposed to be extended for two years. This is stipulated in the draft resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, which has been submitted for public discussion on the Legal Forum, reports BELTA.

The draft resolution envisages extending the ban on amateur fishing in the Western Dvina from the dam of the Vitebsk HPP for a distance of 800 m downstream to the mouth of the Luzhesnyanka River until April 9, 2021 (the current ban expires on April 9, 2019). As explained in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, a large number of fish accumulate in this section of the Western Dvina, which creates conditions for increased poaching. Mass fishing can lead to a deterioration in the state of the population. The ministry believes that the adoption of the document will preserve fish resources and create favorable conditions for their reproduction. In addition, it will help prevent cases of poaching.
