Librarians' salaries in the Vitebsk region will be increased by Br200 thousand in 2010.
March 24, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The salaries of librarians in the Vitebsk region will be increased by Br200 thousand this year, said Alexander Kosinets, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, during a visit to the Lenin Regional Library today, BELTA correspondent reports.
The governor instructed the regional executive committee's culture department and the finance department to develop a system of measures to increase the salaries of library and archive workers as soon as possible and submit this proposal for consideration by the regional council deputies. "The average salary of library workers in the region is about Br550 thousand - this is not enough, but there are ways to increase it," he is confident.
One way to increase the payroll fund could be an increase in paid services provided by libraries. This will be facilitated by increasing Internet access points, developing electronic libraries, expanding collections, and creating exhibition halls at libraries.
In the Vitebsk region, 1539 library workers are employed in 620 public libraries. The book collection numbers 8.5 million books. 600,000 residents of the region are library users. -0-
