Foreign investors have shown interest in biogas production from waste in Vitebsk
July 27, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Foreign investors have shown interest in biogas production at the existing municipal waste landfill in Vitebsk, the head of the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Andrei Shorets, told a BELTA correspondent.
German and Lithuanian investors are ready to invest about 2.5 million euros in production. The project is currently under discussion, after which the final partner selection will take place.
Another project for the construction of a solid municipal waste processing plant has been announced in the FEZ "Vitebsk". It is planned to create a production facility, as a result of which 80-90% of waste will be used beneficially. The estimated cost of construction will be about Br8 billion. Given the importance of this project for the regional center, the housing and communal services department intends to propose it for inclusion in the regional investment program.
The Vitebsk region is experiencing an annual growth of 10-12% in the generation of solid municipal waste. In 2008, the volume of such waste amounted to over 400 thousand tons. The main method of their disposal is burial in landfills, which create a significant burden on the environment, and the disposal of waste without preliminary sorting and extraction of secondary material resources leads to the allocation of additional land plots and deterioration of the ecological situation. There are 29 solid municipal waste landfills and over 700 mini-landfills in rural areas in the region. -0-
