Tomorrow, a day of safety for bicycles and motorcycles will be held on the country's roads
On April 24, the State Automobile Inspectorate will hold a Unified Road Safety Day "Two Wheels – Double Danger!", aimed at preventing traffic accidents involving motorcyclists, scooter riders, and cyclists. Traffic police officers plan to conduct thematic events, as well as visit educational institutions, work collectives of enterprises and organizations.
The traffic police note that in the first three months of this year, 17 traffic accidents occurred due to the fault of bikers, in which five people died and 17 were injured. In five cases, motorcyclists were intoxicated. In addition, from January to March, 31 collisions with cyclists were committed. Cyclists also caused 14 accidents, in which one person died and 13 were injured. Four cyclists were intoxicated at the time of the accidents.
According to accident analysis, young people aged 16 to 25 are mainly involved in (and die in) motorcycle accidents. Among the main causes of accidents involving bikers, state traffic inspectors name driving without a license and driving skills, riding a faulty vehicle that has not passed technical inspection, and every third accident is committed by intoxicated motorcyclists.
Cyclists, on the other hand, forget that traffic rules and basic safety norms require them to ride on bicycle paths and sidewalks. Riding on the shoulders is only allowed in the absence of the aforementioned elements. When riding on highways, cyclists must ride no more than one meter from the edge of the shoulder. If there are two lanes of traffic in different directions, they do not have the right to turn left or make a U-turn, but must, like pedestrians, cross the road at a crosswalk, leading their bicycle next to them.
