Tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the farewell ceremony for VSU Rector Alexander Solodkov will take place at the regional philharmonic hall.

On October 14, 2013, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the fifth convocation, Rector of Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Solodkov Alexander Petrovich tragically passed away.

In the prime of his life, at the peak of his political, scientific, and professional activities, an outstanding and talented person, who did a lot for the development of domestic medicine and higher education, has passed away.

A. P. Solodkov was born on October 5, 1960, in Vitebsk. In 1984, he graduated with honors from Vitebsk State Medical Institute, with which he connected his professional biography for many years.

Starting from the modest position of an assistant at the Department of Normal Physiology, in 1991 he became a Candidate, and in 1998 – a Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Since 1999, the young professor headed the Central Research Laboratory of the institute, and in 2001 he was appointed Vice-Rector for Research at VSMU, a position he held until his appointment in 2009 as Rector of Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov.

Professor A. P. Solodkov was the head of 4 projects funded by the Belarusian Foundation for Fundamental Research. Since 2000, he organized and conducted 12 international scientific and practical conferences. He is the author of 2 monographs, 6 textbooks and study guides, and more than 350 scientific papers.

Alexander Petrovich's scientific achievements were recognized by foreign colleagues: he was a full member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (USA), and the International Academy of Education Humanization (Germany).

For many years of fruitful work, Solodkov A.P. was awarded the badges "Excellent Healthcare Professional of the Republic of Belarus", "Excellent Education Professional of the Republic of Belarus", Certificates of Honor of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the regional executive committee and the regional council of deputies, and was awarded the title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region" for 2012.

He was well known in the region and the republic. His active life position, ability to identify problematic issues and skill in achieving their solutions contributed to the election of A. P. Solodkov as a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the 5th convocation and a deputy of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies of the 26th convocation.

The bright memory of Alexander Petrovich Solodkov will forever remain in our hearts and in the memory of those who worked with him and knew him.
