Soil from military burial sites in the Vitebsk region was transferred to the Church of All Saints
During the campaign in the region, handfuls of soil were collected from military burial sites in 23 districts and cities. A total of 1485 memorial sites were covered. Another capsule was transferred from the Smolensk region. This is a capsule with soil from the grave of Hero of the Soviet Union Mikhail Egorov, who was among those who raised the Victory Banner over the Reichstag. A native of the Smolensk region also broke the blockade ring of the Polotsk-Lepel partisan zone in 1944.
Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev thanked the veterans for their contribution to the common Victory. "This symbolic campaign is a step in remembering the Great Patriotic War. We celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory with a special sense of gratitude to all veterans and assure you that the history of the war is common to all – Belarusians, Russians, Poles, Latvians, Ukrainians, and other peoples," he said.
The governor noted that the "In Glory of the Common Victory" campaign serves to preserve the historical truth about military operations and immortalize the names of heroes. "The Great Victory unites generations, serves as an example of resilience and patriotism for young people, and inspires creation," Nikolai Sherstnev added. He congratulated those present on the upcoming holiday and wished them to cherish the glorious deeds of their ancestors in their memory.
The "In Glory of the Common Victory" campaign was held everywhere. Symbolic handfuls of soil were collected from memorial sites where those who died in the battles of the Great Patriotic War are buried. In addition, graves were tidied up, documents were studied, and new names of the fallen became known. Capsules with soil are being transferred to the crypt of the memorial church in honor of All Saints in Minsk.
