The grain-sowing and flax-growing farms of the Vitebsk region are fully supplied with certified seeds
February 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Grain-sowing and flax-growing farms in the Vitebsk region are fully provided with certified seeds, reported the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Olenich, to a BELTA correspondent.
In the region, 303 agricultural enterprises and peasant farms specialize in growing grain and leguminous crops. According to Nikolai Olenich, the stock of 100% certified seeds is designed for 305 farms. All 47 flax-sowing agricultural enterprises have also fully prepared high-quality seeds for spring sowing. Out of 288 farms growing perennial grasses, 134 have already prepared their seed fund, and in the remaining farms, its preparation and inspection are planned to be completed by March 1.
From March 2 to 5, training for agronomic staff will be held in the region. Lectures for practitioners will be given by scientists from research and practical centers and institutes of the National Academy of Sciences. As Nikolai Olenich noted, this year close attention will be paid to the problem of agricultural product losses at all stages of production.
The grain acreage in the region in 2010 will increase by almost 100 thousand hectares compared to last year and will amount to 458 thousand hectares, of which 200 thousand hectares are under winter crops. The areas under vegetables will generally remain the same. Flax sowing in the region will decrease from 23 thousand hectares to 15 thousand hectares. -0-
