The wife of the President of Poland will fly out with the families of those who died near Smolensk in the coming hours from Vitebsk
October 11, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A plane with a delegation of relatives of Polish citizens who died in the plane crash near Smolensk on April 10 this year will depart from Vitebsk airport in the coming hours, Sergei Ruris, head of the Vitebsk branch of the State Enterprise for Aeronautical Information Service, told a BELTA correspondent.
The Polish delegation, consisting of about 200 people and led by the wife of the current President of Poland, Anna Komorowska, participated in mourning events near Smolensk on October 10 at the crash site. Vitebsk Airport became a transit point for the pilgrims: two planes with mourners arrived here, and then they were taken by buses to the Smolensk region. It was assumed that the delegation would also depart for Warsaw via Vitebsk. However, during the pre-flight inspection of the Boeing aircraft, the crew discovered an engine malfunction. According to Sergei Ruris, it was decided to send one of the planes, carrying about 80 people, to Warsaw, and to call a second plane to replace the Boeing that carried the relatives of the deceased. The First Lady of Poland was also supposed to fly on the first flight, but she decided to stay with the families of those who died near Smolensk.
In the coming hours, 140 people, along with Anna Komorowska, will fly back home.
The authorities of the Vitebsk region provided reception, accommodation, and meals for the passengers. Vitebsk Airport specialists will assist in repairing the faulty aircraft. -0-
