A resident of the Tolochin district has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a double murder motivated by jealousy, Dmitry Lutov, prosecutor of the department for supervision of the legality of court decisions in criminal cases of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, told a BELTA correspondent. The tragic events occurred on one of the February evenings of this year. A friend visited the 59-year-old cohabitant of a Lothario in his fifties, who were renting a room from a local resident. The visit of the youthful lady, coinciding with the receipt of salary, became a reason for a joint feast. The consumption of alcohol ended with a quarrel between two women who argued over the love of the homeowner. The second representative of the stronger sex, who lost in all respects in this competition, was deeply offended by such an attitude towards himself and, out of bitter resentment, reinforced by a considerable amount of alcohol, grabbed an axe. The 51-year-old man inflicted more than 15 axe blows to the head of his cohabitant. The woman died at the scene from the injuries sustained, complicated by traumatic shock, and swelling of the brain and spinal cord. Her friend, who tried to intervene, was dealt about 20 axe blows. Then the avenger went to another room, where the rival, who had also participated in the celebration but missed the main events, had been all this time. They drank together, and after that the lodger began to strike the owner on the head with an axe. The villain's strength was enough for only 5-7 blows, then he fell asleep on the nearest bed. In the morning, "Othello" left the house, and some time later a neighbor who entered the house on business discovered blood-stained walls and two more living people: the 41-year-old friend of the cohabitant and the owner. The latter managed to survive. The punishment for double murder and attempted murder, committed with particular cruelty, for the main defendant in the case was 25 years of imprisonment.
