Vitebsk resident helped police detain robbers

At night, a 29-year-old specialist from one of Vitebsk enterprises helped the police apprehend robbers.

The man went out to the porch to smoke. Suddenly, a cry for help was heard from the courtyards on Lazó Street. It turned out that two scoundrels had snatched a bag from the hands of a pensioner and fled.

The citizen called the police on his mobile phone, and then began to pursue the fleeing robbers himself. During the chase, which lasted about a kilometer, the man informed the law enforcement officers by phone about the direction the criminals were heading. When they realized they couldn't escape, they abandoned their loot – a bag with a mobile phone and money. One of them even managed to drop his passport.

A few minutes later, the nearest police patrol of the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs, as well as OMON officers, joined the search. Based on the descriptions, the suspects were soon apprehended. They turned out to be unemployed villagers from the Vitebsk district, aged 23 and 24. The elder had been repeatedly convicted of theft. They were renting an apartment in Vitebsk.

The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code "Robbery". The detainees are giving testimony.

The citizen who helped apprehend the robbers will become a participant in the annual campaign of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee "Civil Courage". During this campaign, police officers present certificates and awards to their assistants and tell about their brave deeds in the press.
