A resident of the Vitebsk region voluntarily surrendered a 76 mm artillery gun

February 24, Minsk /BELTA/. As a result of the complex of measures taken by the State Security Committee to combat illicit trafficking of weapons, a resident of the Vitebsk region voluntarily surrendered a 76 mm Soviet-made artillery gun. This was reported to BELTA correspondent by the Information and Public Relations Center of the KGB of Belarus. According to the man, he found the gun in 2005 at an abandoned training ground near the village of Chashkovshchina, Vitebsk region, and moved it to the household plot of his house, where it was stored until now. In addition, he found the hull of a disassembled infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) in a forest area. Subsequently, the man intended to organize a museum based on the local forestry. According to local residents, the finds once belonged to Soviet military formations that participated in combat operations in Afghanistan, and after the withdrawal of troops, they were used as targets at now disused training grounds. How combat-ready the artillery gun will be will be determined by specialists. Only after experts are convinced that the weapon is not combat-ready will it be transferred to one of the museums in Belarus. -0-
