November 5, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A resident of the Vitebsk region attempted to illegally export cigarettes worth Br5.6 million to Lithuania, the assistant head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment for Media Relations, Denis Glebko, told a BELTA correspondent. Polotsk border guards at the simplified checkpoint "Vidzy", while inspecting a Peugeot 607 passenger car, whose driver planned to travel to Lithuania, discovered a hiding place equipped in the car's sills. A total of 664 packs of cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were found during an in-depth inspection of the car. The illegal cigarettes have been seized. The smuggler's car has been detained pending a court decision. "As a rule, smugglers try to illegally transport cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps, but at the end of October, Russian-made cigarettes worth Br636 million were found in a hiding place in the semi-trailer of a DAF truck," Denis Glebko noted. -0-
