April 9, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Over 50 units of illegally stored weapons were surrendered by residents of the Vitebsk region during the "Arsenal" special operation, the information and public relations department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate told a BELTA correspondent. This year, residents of the region voluntarily surrendered 16 units of rifled weapons, 33 smooth-bore hunting weapons, 3 gas weapons, 10 explosive devices (grenades, mines, shells from the Great Patriotic War period), and 674 rounds of ammunition to the internal affairs bodies. Meanwhile, not all citizens decided to take advantage of the opportunity to get rid of illegal weapons. Thus, 43 residents of the Vitebsk region were brought to administrative responsibility, and 4 to criminal responsibility for illegal actions related to weapons and ammunition. In addition, law enforcement officers checked 35 reports concerning the illegal storage of weapons, 17 of which were confirmed. The police seized 22 units of weapons from the public. The annual "Arsenal" campaign is held to identify illegally stored weapons and ammunition. During its conduct, citizens who voluntarily surrender weapons are exempted from criminal and administrative liability, the Internal Affairs Directorate reminded. -0-
