A resident of the Vitebsk region was sentenced to 16 years for the murder of his mother
A resident of Vitebsk district was sentenced to 16 years for murdering his mother. He first attempted to kill her in 2000.
The tragedy occurred on Svyataya Street in the village of Voytovo, Vitebsk district. The 86-year-old woman and her 57-year-old son had not lived together for a long time, but constantly clashed. In 2000, he was sentenced for attempted murder of his mother – he hit her on the head with a metal object. The old woman was saved then, and he received a short sentence. Three years later, he was released under amnesty, but their relationship did not improve. The mother disliked her son's drinking, and often said that his place was in prison.
Details were provided by Sergey Selikhanov, Deputy Head of the Department of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office:
– The son came to settle scores on Monday morning. In court, he claimed he was sober – he found an unfinished bottle of wine near the firewood, put it in his sleeve, and went to his mother's house with an axe. The door was locked, so he broke the frame and glass with the axe.
The old woman came out with a cane in her hands and, as best she could, quickly headed towards her daughter's house – she lives nearby. The son grabbed a metal bolt, caught up with her, and hit her on the back of the head. He continued to hit her even after she fell. The woman died a few minutes later.
The murderer will spend 16 years in prison; the sentence has entered into force.
