Journalists, security officers, and even priests will take part in the "Forest Week-2011" campaign in the Vitebsk region

April 16, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Schoolchildren, security officers, journalists, and even priests will take part in the "Forest Week-2011" campaign in the Vitebsk region. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Yuri Lipsky, First Deputy General Director of the Vitebsk State Production Forestry Association and Chief Forester. In all 17 forestry enterprises of the region, sites have been prepared where volunteers can plant trees, create a memorial alley, establish a dendrological park, clear forest areas of litter, or engage in landscaping. For example, in Rossons, the forestry enterprise, with the help of students from the local school, plans to prepare a site for a dendrological garden. On an area of 2.4 hectares near the church on the lake shore, maples, ashes, blue spruces, and rare tree species will be planted a little later. Along with tree planting, open days and product fairs will be held at the forestry enterprises. Everyone is invited to educational excursions to nurseries, dendrological parks, and hunting estates. According to Yuri Lipsky, holding such campaigns helps to draw public attention to the importance of forest resources in ensuring the economic, ecological, and food security of countries. By May 1, the region's forestry enterprises intend to plant trees on an area of 3,000 hectares. The Chief Forester hopes that volunteers will help the forestry enterprises fulfill the set task during "Forest Week." Specialists from the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection, public environmental inspectors, district committees of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, district and city education departments, editorial teams of regional newspapers, the forest management expedition, the Vitebsk Diocese, employees of the Vitebsk Customs and the central apparatus of the KGB of Belarus have confirmed their participation in the "Forest Week-2011" campaign in the Vitebsk region. From April 16 to 23, 2011, a voluntary campaign "Forest Week-2011," dedicated to the International Year of Forests, will be held in Belarus on the initiative of the Ministry of Forestry. -0-
