The renowned art history department of Vitebsk University has launched a series of exhibition events dedicated to the faculty's 50th anniversary

September 29, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. About 60 diploma works by graduates of the Art and Graphics Department of Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov are presented at the exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the department, which opened today in Vitebsk. The head of the university's Department of Fine Arts, Nikolai Gugnin, told a BELTA correspondent about this. The exhibition, composed of works by students from the last few years, features paintings, graphic works, and applied art pieces – tapestries, ceramics, carvings, and plaster sculptures. Two halls of the Art Museum could only accommodate a small part of the high-quality works stored in the department's collection. Nevertheless, when forming the exhibition, the organizers sought to emphasize the genre diversity of students' creativity – these include portraits, thematic compositions, the triptych "The Birth of a Fairy Tale," painterly reflections on rural Belarus, lyrical landscapes, and still lifes. "Over the years, unique students, talented in everything, have passed through the department, so we decided, after a long break, to present ourselves to the people of Vitebsk with such a broad representation, introducing them specifically to the diploma works of our graduates," noted Nikolai Gugnin. The day before the event in Vitebsk, the works were exhibited at a student exhibition in Smolensk, the interlocutor added. The exhibition opens a series of events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the famous Vitebsk Art and Graphics Department and will run for a month. The grand closing of the exhibition is planned to be held within the framework of the IV International Scientific Conference "Fine Arts in the Education System," scheduled for the end of October. In addition, at the beginning of next year, the Art and Graphics Department of VSU will organize a retrospective exhibition at the National Library of Belarus. The exhibition is planned to be formed in such a way as to present the works of students and teachers, as well as to introduce visitors as fully as possible to the history of the Art and Graphics Department of the Vitebsk university, Nikolai Gugnin reported. -0-
