The Zonal Archives of the Vitebsk Region were the first in Belarus to publish guides to archival collections

February 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Zonal state archives in Orsha and Glubokoye of the Vitebsk region were the first in Belarus among regional archives to implement projects for creating guides to archival collections, the department for archives and record keeping of the main justice department of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent. A guide is one of the main elements of the scientific and reference system for archive documents and contains information about its collections. The preparation for printing similar publications for the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region and the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk is currently being completed, which are planned to be published in 2010. Thus, the Vitebsk region will be the first region where all archival institutions will have their own guides to collections. Such a publication provides an opportunity to get acquainted with and navigate the vast array of archive documents and is intended for researchers, historians, and local historians. It will also be of interest to the public, enterprises and organizations, and everyone who is not indifferent to the history of their native region. For example, the guide to the Zonal State Archive in Orsha contains descriptions of over 1.3 thousand collections, annotations of the composition of documents from 1917 to 2004, which reflect the political, economic, and socio-cultural development of Orsha, as well as the Orsha, Dubrovno, Senno, and Tolochin districts. For the convenience of users, the publication provides information on the history of organizations whose documents are stored in the archive. In addition, the guide allows you to track the "migration" of documents caused by the formation of a network of territorial personnel archives. It presents information about all organizations whose personnel documents are stored in the Dubrovno, Orsha, Senno, and Tolochin district archives. The preface to the publication contains the history of the creation and development of the zonal state archive, as well as archival work in the Orsha region. The guide to the Zonal State Archive in Glubokoye is published in the form of a brief reference book that combines information about collections and documents characterizing the development of the Braslav, Glubokoye, Dokshitsy, Miory, Postavy, and Sharkovshchina districts. -0-
