A star named after Korotkevich and commemorative envelopes. The writer's anniversary was widely celebrated in the Vitebsk region

Звезда имени Короткевича и памятные конверты. На Витебщине с размахом отметили юбилей писателя

One of the significant events dedicated to the celebration of the 85th anniversary of Vladimir Korotkevich's birth was the ceremonial cancellation of a marked envelope with a commemorative special postmark.

It took place on November 26 at the V. Korotkevich Museum in Orsha with the participation of the initiators and organizers of the project – representatives of RUE "Belpochta", the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the District Executive Committee, and the Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha region.

The special postmark, issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Belarus for one day only, features an ex-libris of Vladimir Korotkevich. The envelope, printed in a circulation of 50 thousand copies, depicts a portrait of the famous Belarusian writer, as well as an illustration for the novel “Kalasі pad syarpom tvaim”.

The nominal value of the "A" stamp corresponds to the tariff for sending a simple letter weighing up to 20 g inclusive within our country. The honorable right to perform the special cancellation was granted to the Director of the Orsha District Postal Communication Unit Andrey Bogdanov, the Director of the Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha region Vladimir Kuzubov, and the Director of the V. Korotkevich Museum Lina Gotovskaya.

A Star in the Leo Constellation

A new 6th magnitude star has appeared on the celestial map – named after Vladimir Korotkevich. This gift for the classic's anniversary was prepared by the staff of the Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha region in collaboration with the representative of the International Star Catalog in Belarus Irina Levko.

The constellation in which the star of the famous countryman will be located was determined by his novel "The Lions Will Not Return". And since this meteor shower is observed in the constellation Leo, the choice fell on it.

As Yulia Komarova, Deputy Director of the Museum Complex, who did all the preliminary work on submitting materials and documents for присвоение, told us, in good weather this star can be seen even with the naked eye – it is one of the largest in the International

Star Catalog. On November 26, Irina Levko handed over to the Orsha Museum of V. Korotkevich a certificate confirming that a celestial body in honor of the famous Belarusian classic has appeared in the sky.

The presentation of the document took place at a solemn festive concert, and in the near future it will take its rightful place in the museum's exhibition.

By the way, a total of 6.5 million stars are listed in the International Star Catalog, on the creation of which a team of scientists led by German Titov worked. Giving each star a name is not a cheap procedure. And only the new star in the constellation Leo became a gratuitous gift for the anniversary of Vladimir Semyonovich.
